So It Is Lent Again
So it was Ash-Wednesday again last Wednesday. I can remember when I was a child my mother used to tell me about the people kneeling on the steps of the Cathedral in Mainz begging for forgiveness of their sins from passers by.
And of course, some children turned up at school 2 hours later because they went to church first thing in the morning to get their ashen cross on the forehead.
Lent is here, it is six weeks until it will be Easter again. Lent was always the time when you shouldn't indulge out of respect for the sufferings of Jesus Christ. Meat, cream and any rich food was forbidden during Lent in countries where the population was mostly Catholic. Today people still give something up for Lent, not only for religious reasons. So they would not drink alcohol or eat chocolate for the 6 weeks before Easter. You are supposed to give something up you really like otherwise it wouldn't be a sacrifice. And anyway, it is a good way to clear out the system for spring, a kind of spring clean for the body.
So it is a time of sacrifice and suffering, the 40 days before Easter.
Three years ago I was going to sacrifice something as well, and I did suffer because I was giving up sugar.
Now I know that this is not my thing. I do need sugar in my diet, I just need to take control over how much I eat. And the other thing about sugar is that it is used in Homoeopathy. I use Homoeopathic remedies where the active ingredient covers the outside of little sugar pills. This is sweet medicine which is easily taken, even by children. There is a fine line between pleasure and addiction and sugar can actually change the behavior of individuals. I must not forget to mention that there is actually a Homoeopathic remedy made out of sugar.
Sugar is a funny substance and sugar changing the behavior is nothing new in Homoeopathy. I just need to look at the symptom picture of Sacharum officinale, the homoeopathic remedy made of cane sugar. In the mental symptoms it shows discontentment, fear of failure, irritability, violent temper and extreme aggression. In the remedy picture (particularly after eating sweets), there is also the fear of losing the love of a beloved person or parents and the delusion that the siblings are loved more by the parents.
Sacharum officinale is not only a homoeopathic remedy which is able to deal with the ill effects of eating too much sugar. It is actually a remedy which should be prescribed by a Homoeopath. So this is not a remedy I need to discuss here at length because you need to know your stuff to be able to prescribe it and there is no need for it in everyday life like for arnica, for example. But if you want to know a bit more about the magic of Homoeopathy and how it might help you contact me on 07813 195468. Looking forward to hear from you.
