Addictions

Not Knowing When Enough Is Enough

Did it ever happen to you that you could just have one biscuit, one glass of wine, one square of chocolate? Or did the chocolate keep calling you till only the wrapper was left, the biscuits vanished as if by magic and all of a sudden the bottle of wine was just something to put into the recycling bin? You are not alone, it happens to a lot of people. Some do not start in the first place, even do not have any spare chocolate or biscuits in the house, just in case. They do not want to be tempted. Some people buy the stuff and find it quite liberating to chuck it into the bin with gusto.

Addiction is a big word and it sounds bad. How can something so innocent and nice as chocolate and biscuits be addictive? It doesn't matter what the substance is, even gambling can be addictive, alcohol, chocolate, cocaine, the sugar in the biscuit, heroine or the fact that you cannot stop eating when you are full. The problem is that you cannot stop, that you do not know when enough is enough and your body is demanding more and more. It doesn't mean that you are a greedy pig, that you are out of order and a bad person who should be ashamed. It might mean that your hormones are out of balance.

Most of us lead busy lives and are permanently on the go. Coffee and energy drinks might help us through the day and our system is clever. Your body is designed to survive and so the adrenal glands can support the thyroid gland when it is over worked and not functioning properly. This works fine till the adrenal glands are exhausted as well. Then you will need substitutes to help your body.  Even though chocolate cannot resolve loneliness, and a bottle of wine doesn't solve a relationship problem or problems at work, it gives you temporary relief and comfort.

On top of that there is the fact that stressful times can have an impact on your hypothalamus, the conductor of the endocrine orchestra. The hypothalamus is responsible for giving us our appetite and controlling satiety. Stress, and a stressful childhood in particular, might lead to disturbance in your hormonal system. This can lead to addictions.

Whatever the reason, Homoeopathy might help you to rebalance your hormonal imbalance and give you your life back, free of addictions. There are several homoeopathic remedies which address the hormone system and can help to rebalance your body along side constitutional prescriptions. If you want to know a bit more about Homoeopathy and how it can help you give me a call on 07813 195468. Looking forward to hear from you.
