The spirit of Christmas

In our busy lives we hardly take time to sit back and contemplate what Christmas really is about. Yes, sure, it is family time and fun time and a time of joy. The true Christmas spirit is about hope, the arrival of a savior who cleanses us of all sins, a hope of redemption and peace.  

Unfortunately this is not the case for everyone. There are people who are utterly exhausted from preparations for the festivities at Christmas, people who are alone with no one to share the joy and people in anxiety and fear. There are people who are facing domestic violence with no one to turn to and people who are grieving for lost loved ones. 

There is still violence and intolerance in the world and particularly in the current situation.  We cannot change the world in a fortnight for a few days over Christmas but we can change and reflect on our behavior and our feelings. Sometimes there seems to be no way out of a difficult situation and we do not know what to do about it. It is not as easy as it sounds to find the light switch or the window to open in a dark room, and what if it is dark outside as well and the power is off?
