Modern Times
I don't know about you but I have noticed that times are getting faster. Nobody has time anymore for a chat or to wait in the queue at a checkout. Being in a rush leads to irritability and impatients. Everything has to be quick, nobody is willing to wait till the little old lady tries to get the small coins out of her purse with her arthritic hands not working properly. Everybody is being busy, even in retirement. Do you know the film "Modern Times" by Charlie Chaplin, the scene where he nearly disappears into the machine because he cannot keep up with the working speed at the conveyor belt?
We get told by the media to slow down and enjoy the moment. Mindfulness is the big word, but for a lot of us it only remains a word. We are tired at the end of a busy day but this is not the good tiredness you get after a long walk in fresh air. When we go to bed, we cannot relax and very often people take screens into the bedroom or even have the television in the bedroom. How many times are people taking work to bed? The laptop makes it possible. When we finally turn the lights out we cannot go to sleep, we are tired but wired, there is too much adrenalin in our system. When we get up in the mornings we don't feel rested and need a lot of stimulants like tea or coffee to keep us going and more throughout the day to be able to keep up with the demands on us, and the workload. With the occasional, or more, energy drink we keep up the energy levels.
One morning we might wake up and are unable to get out of bed because our energy is completely depleted. Everything is too much, a phone call throws us out of balance and even the birthday of a sister or child is not a happy event anymore but just another point on our timetable. The head is too full, we cannot handle anymore, we cannot cope with another demand. We feel in a constant fight or flight mode. This is the time to see a homoeopath.
