Don't cry

 Tears For You

I do love onions, and I have already planted them in the garden, waiting for them to grow. They are such a versatile vegetable and can be used extensively in the kitchen. I do use them in almost everything I cook. That is how my mother used to teach me cooking. First, tie your hair back, don an apron, wash your hands and peel an onion. I like them cooked but also raw in salads and in sandwiches.

They not only taste very good, they are healthy as well. I don't know how many people have been saved from scurvy by onions. They are very high in vitamin B and C but on top of that they contain phosphor, potassium and fluorine. They are also very high in essential oils which make us cry when peeling an onion but also aid digestion. Onions clean the gut and there are many ways an onion could aid healing.

Did you ever hear of the cough syrup you can make at home with a raw onion and a bit of sugar or honey? It is very easy. Take a clean, empty jar, peel, wash and slice an onion and put it in the jar. Pour the honey or sugar over it, put the lid on and leave over night. You can take up to 3 tea spoons full of this mixture every day till your cough gets better.

Another way of using a raw onion if you feel under the weather is cutting it into chunky slices and put one on each of the soles of your feet. Put socks over the slices on your feet and go to bed. You should feel better the next day. Your bed might stink a little bit and your bedroom as well but it really helps, I have tried it.

Of course, there is another way of taking the full benefit of the healing properties of the onion without the stink or the strong taste.

The homoeopathic remedy made out of the common household onion is called Allium cepa. It is an excellent medicine for hay fever when there are a lot of burning and smarting tears streaming down your face and the nose is running.

This remedy can also be used for a cold when the nasal secretion is acrid and the discharge from the eye is bland.

My onions in the garden. Boo hoo!
